Most of us have had the experience of getting ripped off by a car shop at least once in our lives. So how do you keep that from happening again? We crowdsourced that question to a team of professionals. Here’s what they had to say.

Look for reviews

With the digital age truly upon us, it’s easy to find things at our fingertips. However, you need to double-check details you find online in case of scammy sites. Just because a site is #1 in the search results is no guarantee of a site’s authenticity. Look for reviews online of the place, and not just the ones on their site – check Google reviews, Yelp, and Trustpilot – this should give you a balanced assessment of how good the site is.

Check-in with your friends or that car person that everyone knows. Personal recommendations are always a great way to find a good dealer. Last, but not least, you can check what accreditations the automotive tire dealer has listed on its website. You should then be able to go to the accreditation website and check if that place is listed as a member. If they are not actually listed, then stay far away.

Word of mouth

When shopping for an automotive shop, consumers should ask their neighbors and friends. Word of mouth is the most important advertisement or endorsement a shop can have. As a consumer, that’s my first step when I’m looking to make a repair on my vehicle. As a former shop manager, we valued our reputation and made sure our customer service was top notch so our customers would tell others about us.

Consumers can also utilize industry organizations to find out more info about shops. To be a member of an industry organization, shops usually have to qualify and maintain a certain level of training.

Choosing a trustworthy tire shop

Speaking as someone who handles personal injury cases, many of which come from car accidents which were a result of faulty tire installation or repairs, I can’t express enough how important it is to do your due diligence when choosing a trustworthy tire shop.

Improper tire repairs and installations can lead to serious injury, so these are a couple of my tips when choosing a trustworthy tire shop.

Make sure the shop is reputable.

It may take time, but I recommend searching through Yelp reviews or any other reviews. Also, check for certifications, such as AAA ratings with the tire shop.

Ask for a referral.

Seek advice and recommendations from close friends or family members on which tire shops they use and trust.

Beware of deals that seem too good to be true.

I know how much everyone loves a good bargain, but tires purchases and repairs are not something which you should cut corners with.
