Is a State Inspection required in Utah?

To clarify, the state of Utah does not require a state inspection for most vehicles. However, there are some counties in Utah that require emissions testing for vehicles registered in those counties.

Currently, only the following counties in Utah require emissions testing:

• Cache
• Davis
• Salt Lake
• Utah
• Weber

Vehicles registered in these counties are required to pass an emissions test before they can be registered or renewed. The emissions test checks for the presence of certain pollutants in the vehicle’s exhaust and ensures that the vehicle meets the state’s emissions standards.

What’s the difference between a State Inspection and an Emissions Test?

A state inspection is a comprehensive assessment of a vehicle’s safety components, including brakes, lights, steering, suspension, and tires. Its purpose is to verify compliance with state safety standards, ensuring the vehicle is safe for public road use.
